What if I don’t have crushed ice?
The reason for crushed ice is that we need the ice to melt into the drink faster than normal to balance our drink. The cheap and dirty method for crushed ice is to put cubed ice into a thick Ziplock bag and smash it with a mallet (bonus: it’s a great stress reliever too). You can also purchase a Lewis bag which definitely works better than a plastic bag. I’ve had mine for years and have never had any regrets.
Is Peppermint Schnapps the same as Crème De Menthe?
No, Peppermint Schnapps is not the same as Crème De Menthe. Peppermint Schnapps has a more intense peppermint flavor and is less sweet. It is available in 15%, 30% and 50% ABV levels. Crème De Menth is available in 15% -18% ABV.
Save This!
An American Schnapps is produced by mixing a grain spirit with other flavors and sugar. A Liqueur is made from distilled alcohol that has been flavored with fruit, cream, spices, herbs flowers or nuts and bottled with sugar. Liqueurs are typically much sweeter, especially “crème” liqueurs which have a high sugar content.
What does Crème De Menthe go with?
The most popular Crème De Menthe cocktail is the Grasshopper, but this minty liqueur pairs well with any creamy or chocolate-based cocktail. It also makes a fantastic refreshing mint Julep when paired with lemon and lime juices.
What is the difference between white Crème De Cacao and dark Crème De Cacao?
White Crème De Cacao has a slightly more delicate chocolate flavor with hints of vanilla, and dark Crème De Cacao is slightly more bitter like dark chocolate with hints of citrus and vanilla. Either one will make a delicious chocolate cocktail, but if the color of your drink matters you will want to use the white version.
How to make a non-alcoholic Mistletoe Prep Drink:
You can easily make this a mocktail by substituting the Crème De Menthe for a non-alcoholic Crème De Menthe syrup and substitute the Crème De Cacao for a white chocolate syrup.
Ingredients needed:
- 1 oz. Crème De Menthe syrup
- 1 oz. White Chocolate Syrup
- 2 oz. Heavy Cream
- 2 oz. Milk
Shake all ingredients with crushed ice and top with crushed candy canes. Enjoy!
When to enjoy a Gin Christmas Cocktail:
