When the snow drifts are 4ft tall and the icicles are growing faster than your waistline…you know it’s time to settle in for a long winter and warm up with a Melted Snowman Cocktail. For me, nothing says it’s the Holidays like a frosty tropical drink in hand, and this Christmas Gin Cocktail does the trick.
This recipe is loosely based on a classic 60s Tiki drink called the “Rangoon Gimlet”, which was created by Tony Ramos of the China Trader Restaurant in Burbank, CA. The Rangoon Gimlet can be made with Vodka or Gin, but in this recipe, we are using Gin… I’ve also traded the simple syrup for Orgeat which gives it a nutty Almond flavor (similar to marzipan) for some seasonal flair.
Why you’ll love this recipe:
This Christmas Gin Cocktail is a tropical winter delight. The botanical notes from the Gin blend seamlessly with the fresh lime juice and sweet nutty Orgeat…and with only 3 ingredients it’s a cinch to make. Share it with your darling or make it for the extended relatives that are snowed-in…indefinitely. You’ll all be a little more jovial after a couple of these.
Ingredients you’ll need:
- Gin. Pick your favorite.
- Lime Juice. For the best flavor this should be freshly squeezed, but in a pinch you can use concentrate lime juice. I stand behind Nellie & Joe’s Key West Lime Juice as a substitute.
- Orgeat. I recommend BG Reynold’s Orgeat, but if you are on a budget Fee’s Orgeat works great too.
- Cocktail Cherry Garnish. A mix of red and green maraschino cherries make for a fun Christmas garnish.
- Crushed Ice
Tools you will need:
- Measuring Jigger
- Boston Shaker
- Your favorite Holiday glass.
- A fun winter Swizzle Stick.
How to make this Gin Christmas Cocktail:
- Combine all the ingredients in your shaker.
- Shake vigorously with crushed ice and pour into your glass. Top with more crushed ice.
- Garnish with the cherries on top and serve with a swizzle stick.
- Cheers!

What if I don’t have crushed ice?
Ice is not just for chilling a drink, it can also be an essential ingredient for a well balanced cocktail. The reason for crushed ice in this recipe is so the ice melts into the drink faster adding water to the mix, which will balance the drink. The cheap and dirty method for crushed ice is to put cubed ice into a thick plastic bag and smash it with a mallet (bonus: it’s a great stress reliever too). You can also purchase a Lewis bag which definitely works better than a plastic bag. I’ve had mine for years and love it.
How to serve the Melted Snowman:
To make this a festive drink I highly recommend procuring a Christmas glass to drink this out of. It will undoubtedly add to the holiday cheer and jubilation that should accompany a Christmas cocktail. A vintage-style Bubble Light Snowman is the perfect accompaniment to the curated Bar cart and will bring a smile to all your guests.
How to make this for a crowd:
The best way to make this for multiple people is to blend it in a blender. You can fit about 6 servings in a 64 oz. blender. Multiply the ingredients by 6 and add roughly 6-8 cups of ice. Blend and serve.
When to serve this Cocktail:
This is a winter drink, but also very refreshing for warmer temperatures. It’s great as a:
- Christmas drink
- Poolside drink
- Holiday Party drink
- Signature drink
- Happy Hour drink
- Cocktail Party drink
