A Whimsical Purple Drink for Garden Parties & Fairy Gatherings
Whether you’re hosting a fairy birthday party, planning a garden gathering, or just want something a little more special than your usual evening drink, this recipe delivers. Serve it as a purple mocktail for all ages, or add a splash of gin to turn it into an elegant purple cocktail.
I served this at my daughters Enchanted Forest Fairy party and it was an instant hit among the kiddos and adults.
Ingredient Notes
Butterfly Pea Flower Powder
I use Incas butterfly pea flower powder, which makes creating that signature deep blue base incredibly easy. Just mix with warm water and watch the magic happen—once combined with acidic ingredients, it shifts into that dreamy purple hue.
Pro tip:
Strain your butterfly pea flower liquid through cheesecloth before adding it to the drink.
It takes an extra 30 seconds and makes the difference between a cloudy mixture and that clear, jewel-toned purple that actually looks magical in the glass.
Elderflower Cordial
A sweet floral syrup made from elderflower blossoms. It adds a delicate, lightly sweet flavor that gives this purple fairy drink its signature garden-inspired taste. The Bacanha Organic Raw Elderflower syrup is excellent quality and lasts for multiple batches.

Lavender Simple Syrup
I almost always make this at home—it’s simple and far better than store-bought. Just be sure to use culinary lavender unless you want your drink tasting like a candle. If homemade just isn’t in the cards, this Lavender Syrup is superb.
White Grape Juice
Light, slightly sweet, but neutral enough to let the floral flavors shine. It’s the backbone of this purple drink without overpowering it. It is also the “acidic” ingredient we need to make the signature violet purple color.
Gin (Optional)
If you’re leaning cocktail, gin is the obvious choice. It plays nicely with the floral notes and turns this into a proper garden party drink for adults to sip on.
Tools You Will Need

Proper Garnishes
Dried Rose Petals
This is what brings the whole magical garden drink full circle. The light floral aroma hits before the first sip, and visually it turns a pretty drink into something guests actually comment on. I used these dried roses for my drinks.
Pansies or Violas
These lean right into the purple theme and look almost too perfect floating on top. Gourmet Sweet Botanicals has these, plus so many more ideas to try!
Lavender Sprigs
Fresh or dried both work beautifully. Clip a small sprig to the rim with a mini clothespin for a simple but charming detail. Bonus: it smells incredible every time someone takes a sip.
Mint Leaves
A small sprig of fresh mint adds a bright green pop against that deep purple hue. It also keeps the drink from feeling overly sweet or perfumey—think of it as the voice of reason in an otherwise very whimsical glass.
Make it Fun:
Create a “forest garnish bar” with bowls of rose petals, pansies, lavender, and mint, and let guests choose their own finishing touch. It’s interactive, and it doubles as part of your décor.

How to make a Batch Purple Fairy Drink
Hosting a crowd? This purple fairy drink easily transforms into a stunning batch cocktail or mocktail.
Serves 8
Ingredients:
- 4 cups white grape juice
- 1 cup butterfly pea flower liquid (strained and cooled)
- 1 cup elderflower cordial
- 1 cup lavender simple syrup
- 12–16 dashes rose water (to taste)
- 2 cups dry gin (optional)
- Dried rose petals, for garnish
Instructions:
- In a large clear pitcher, combine ice with the white grape juice, elderflower cordial, lavender syrup, and rose water.
- Stir well to combine, then remove the ice.
- Add the butterfly pea flower liquid and gently stir to create that signature violet hue.
- Chill until ready to serve.
- Add gin just before serving, if using.
- Pour into glasses and garnish with dried rose petals.
Pro Tip:
If you want that layered, “magical” color effect, add the butterfly pea mixture last and don’t overmix—it’ll swirl into the prettiest shades of purple right in the pitcher.
Fairy Drink Serving Ideas to Make it Feel Extra Magical
This is where a simple drink turns into a full experience.
- Tie delicate ribbon bows around your glass stems for an instant touch of whimsy. Soft velvet or chiffon works best.
- Use vintage silver trays to display your glassware and pitcher—the contrast makes that purple color pop.
- Create a woodland-inspired bar surface with layered moss, small branches, or foraged greenery. Keep it loose and organic, not overly styled.
- Add soft, colorful lighting behind your bar cart to cast a subtle glow. Think warm fairy lights or soft purples—not anything that feels like a nightclub.

A little magical, a little indulgent, and exactly the kind of detail your guests won’t forget. It’s simple to make, but feels like something far more special—which is really the whole point.
Cheers!
