TIP: For extra points use a Slimer toy figurine as the centerpiece of your Pizza Bagel display.
Substitutions & Variations
- If you want to get creative with your chips, try Doritos, Cheetos, or even Cheez-Its for a nod to Egon.
- You can substitute beef hot dogs for pork, chicken, turkey, or vegetarian hot dogs.
Leftover Pizza Bagels
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge. To reheat, pop them back in the oven on broil for a few minutes.
Common Questions:
Can I use pre-shredded cheese?
I don’t recommend it. Pre-shredded cheese from the store contains added ingredients to prevent clumping (like starch and cellulose) and it won’t take the green food color quite as evenly. It also does not melt as easily (and you might miss out on the coveted cheese pull).
Can I use a different cheese?
Yes, you can use any cheese you want so long as it is white. A yellow cheese will not obtain the same Slimer green color.
How do you keep pizza bagels from getting soggy?
Pre-toasting them is key. The soft dough of the bagels tends to absorb the moisture from the sauce which can cause them to be soggy. Pre-toasting won’t completely eliminate the problem, but it does help.
